A former roofer has been awarded more than £160,000 in compensation after developing mesothelioma, an aggressive form of lung cancer, as a result of being exposed to deadly asbestos fibres in the course of his employment.
Jim Kingshott, 57, was diagnosed with the deadly disease in December 2006 and doctors have told him he has only months to live. He fitted ceilings and carried out roofing work for a company on the South Coast for more than 20 years. During that time he was repeatedly exposed to asbestos.
Mr Kingshott now has difficulty carrying out even the most basic tasks and the compensation has given him peace of mind knowing that his family will be provided for after his death.
It is welcome that the settlement in this case has come so quickly as mesothelioma sufferers often do not survive for very long after their diagnosis. This is because the disease is particularly resistant to current forms of chemotherapy.
Mesothelioma is one of the more difficult diseases that people and their families have to face. It can take many years to develop and, once diagnosed, the prognosis is poor. If you or a family member is diagnosed with an asbestos-related illness or any other illness arising from contact with harmful substances at work, we can help you to take prompt action to recover any compensation to which you are entitled.
