Successful Asbestos Claims Target Multiple Employers

In two recent asbestos-related compensation cases, claimants have successfully obtained damages from their former employers.

In the first case, a 73-year-old former welder, who has been diagnosed with lung cancer from asbestos exposure, was awarded £20,000 in provisional damages.

The grandfather-of-three had to have half of one of his lungs removed and has been told that there is a likelihood that the cancer will return.

As the settlement has been made on a provisional basis, the man will be able to re-open his claim should the cancer return.

In the second case, Albert Flood, 79, a former joiner, was exposed to asbestos while working for a number of different employers in the 1950s and 1960s.

A CT scan revealed that he was suffering from asbestosis, an inflammation of the lungs associated with long-term exposure to asbestos.

Whilst it was not possible to track down all of the companies Mr Flood had worked for in the past, four of his former employers were identified and agreed to pay a one-off settlement of £25,000.

Employers have a duty to provide protective clothing and equipment and to train those who work in dangerous conditions on how to do so safely. If you are injured as a result of your employer's failure to comply with health and safety law, you could be entitled to compensation.
